Would You Mind Taking A Picture Of Me My Phone?

From The Wonderful World Of Ideas

Since the creation of cell phones there has been an increasing amount of people who enjoy getting their pictures taken of themselves and their phone, like it's their best friend or something. More and more pictures like this have obviously been surfacing over the years. It seems most of these people really only get these pictures taken with their (best friend) phone in private with what appears to be a restroom in the background.

Disclaimer: No authorization has been granted for the use of these images but they're already on the internet so what's the big deal. However, names have been changed to protect the innocent (i.e. "iPhone" is now "John Smith")

What? Are they ashamed of their phones to take these pictures out in public? Thinking people will find it odd that they're getting a picture taken of just them and their phone. What does the person who is taking these picture think? Having to go in to the restroom and take a picture of someone and their phone.

I'm sure I won't soon understand this phenomenon but I just hope that laws don't get passed to allow people to marry their phones. Here are a few people who love their phones enough to have their pictures taken with them.

If Walt Disney made "Up" in the 60s

From The Wonderful World Of Ideas

They did a pretty good job of this "premake" of Up [From The Write up] What if... Walt Disney produced "Up" in the 1960s?

Ah, the swinging 60s. It was a time when films were dominated by flying automobiles and flying nannies. It was also a time when live-action Disney films flourished and spawned such hits as "The Love Bug", "The Absent-Minded Professor", and "The Monkey's Uncle".

In an alternate reality, this era also saw the production of the high-flying adventure-comedy, "Up!". Starring Spencer Tracy and Kirk Douglas, "Up!" followed the oddball escapades of the elderly widower, Carl Fredricksen, and his earnest band of misfits as they traveled through the wilds of South America. Produced two decades after "Saludos Amigos" and "The Three Caballeros", the film continued the Disney tradition of telling stories set against Latin American backdrops.

Analog Art

From The Wonderful World Of Ideas

A couple weeks ago I was up in my attic putting up the Christmas decorations and I stumbled on and old box of cassettes. I don't why I still had these but I understand now how my parents felt about their vinyls. I pulled the box down and looked through them. There was stuff I hadn't listened to in years and some I had replaced with CD. My wife kept urging me to throw them away, I mean we didn't even own a cassette player. I would respond with "Do you know how much a tape was back in the day?" I had put a lot of work and sweat mowing lawns to be able to get that Bon Jovi Slippery When Wet album, come on!

tape art from the kness design wonderful world of ideas blog

Needless to say I had to get rid of them. I then stumbled on a brilliant idea someone had of preserving this memorable medium. I realized I may not have a cassette player anymore but I did have a canvas. Check out these awesome portraits made from old film and tape reels from artist Erika Iris Simmons. Then I thought I have a closest full of CDs that will soon mostly like be made into art. On top of that what kind of art can be done with old MP3 players once this whole digital fad dies out. Hmmm...
